Frequently Asked Questions
How many staff will there be and what is the staff / child ratio?
The staff/child ratio depends on the age of the child. Regulations state the following:
Under 2 years – 1 staff member to every 3 children.
Under 3 years – 1 staff member to every 4 children.
3 to 5 years – 1 staff member to every 8 children.
Kingsland Nursery will always meet and go beyond the requirements.
How are new children supported to settle into the nursery?
We have a settling in procedure that is flexible enough to recognise that children need different levels of support during this time. We invite parents to participate in stay and play sessions during the first few days of their child’s attendance. As well as helping to strengthen your child’s attachment to nursery staff, it provides parents with insight into the level of care they can expect their child to receive once they begin attending Kingsland Nursery
Will my child be safe and secure at nursery?
Great emphasis is placed on security and nobody is allowed in the nursery if they are unknown to the staff. Visitors are by strict appointment only. Kingsland Nursery has an extensive CCTV and secure door system to ensure maximum security.
Are all children cared for in the same room?
We believe it is important for children to spend some time in a mixed aged group environment as it helps to support their ability to make relationships with all children from babies through to pre-schoolers. Children will however spend most of their time amongst children their own age to help focus their continued learning and development. We have 3 group rooms to cater for children aged 0-2 years old, 2-3 years old and 3-5 years old respectively.
What is the current Ofsted Rating?
Kingsland Nursery was rated 'Good' in all categories by Ofsted in May 2016
Do children get to play outdoors?
We have our own secure private outdoor area for children to enjoy every day.
Do I have to bring meals?
All meals are included in children’s fees so there is nothing extra to pay. Fresh food is prepared on site on a daily basis in our nursery kitchen which has a current 5-star food hygiene rating
What happens when I come to collect my child?
There is always a senior member of staff on duty at all times of the day. Staff will only hand over children at the end of the session to people who have previously been authorised to collect the child and are known to them.
No child will be allowed to leave with an unrecognised collector without prior arrangements being made.
Do you accept childcare vouchers and Tax free childcare payments?
Yes, we accept Childcare vouchers and are registered to accept Tax Free Childcare Payments..
Can I come and visit the nursery?
Yes. We encourage parents interested in registering their children to arrange a visit. During the viewing process, they will receive a guided tour of the Nursery premises, meet the staff team and be given the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about Kingsland Nursery’s childcare services.
